The Wheels on the… Crossfire Go Round

I bought a Chrysler Crossfire a few months ago.

It has been a dream car of mine and now I own one. I love it.

But I knew I would need to put new tires on it when I bought it. I also knew that my beautiful sports car, with different sized front and rear wheels, was going to cost me a pretty penny for “new shoes.” I was just praying that it wouldn’t have to be for about another month.

Let’s get real, after buying the car and taking care of other expenses that came up over the past couple of months I was back on a tight budget and just hoping everything would time out to my advantage.

Well my car had other ideas.

The other day I looked at my tires and realized the rear driver side tire was getting really low on tread. #fantastic

Then, I thought I saw a nail. A nail that had not made my tire sensor come on and looked like it had been there a while. #wonderful

But, with a prayer that I was just being paranoid, I kept on with my life. Then my tire sensor came on a couple of days later.

After already having been stressed for the past couple of weeks, I was a step away from a panic attack.

Thus, I called my mom.

Yes, I am a mid-twenties professional with a master’s degree who calls their parents. Judge me. I am going to utilize my security blanket of family as long as I have them.

She told me, “Don’t worry. Go get your car checked out. We will take care of your car. We will make sure you are safe.”

So, I leave work early and drive to the other side of town to Discount Tire and on the way there my tire sensor turned off. Are you kidding me, you little light?!?!! It’s because of you I have been spiraling downward mentally.

I pull up to the store and go inside to wait for someone to be able to help me. When it’s my turn they ask what they can do for me and I tell them about the nail. The guy goes out to look at the car and after a minute of waiting inside, I decide to go and see what he says while checking the tires. He tells me I need new ones especially on the left rear, but if I’m not driving to Dallas I should be okay for a little while

Not good when you need to drive 500 miles south for a wedding.

So, I start texting my mom. And while I am doing this I move to where I can see them working on my car. I then see four employees, all of whom look at tires regularly, looking at my tire and their body language just screams this is not good. Thus, in comes the Calvary, Dad. He and I start talking about possibly meeting in San Antonio to replace all of my tires, because this Discount didn’t have all the tires I would need.

Then, I hear my name called. I put my dad on hold.

Them – “We had a little accident out there. When we were taking your tire off the ribbing on the edge of the tire ripped. So, we are putting a new tire on your car.”

Me – “Okay, what will I owe for the tire?”

Them – “Nothing. It was our fault. We are going to replace it. It’s your lucky day.”

Oh you dear Discount Tire Employees you have no idea.

I get back on the phone and tell my dad I have a new tire.  He laughs and I laugh because I am just so dang relieved. I don’t care if the new tire isn’t what I would have personally bought. I just need the tire to get me through the next couple weeks at least.

It was a total God moment.

Earlier in the week, while talking to my brother I had told him I was going to take care of my regular bills and trust that God would take care of anything else that came up.

So, in the midst of my worry, he decided to show me that my faith was not misplaced and that his is completely in control of all situations. Even my need of a tire was not out of his purview.

Furthermore, Discount Tire is going to benefit because I will be replacing all of my tires with them now. They took care of me and have earned my trust and loyalty. So, the free $200 sports tire is going to result in about a $800 dollar profit when I come back and buy my other tires.

In the mean time, I have a new tire and the wheels on the Crossfire are still going round and round.

“And they that know your name will put their trust in you: for you, LORD, have not forsaken them that seek you.” – Psalm 9:10
