Yesterday was the first day of school for many students. It is a momentous occasion for many filled with firsts and many eyes filled tears (generally the parents).
However, at a university there is nothing but excitement. Friends are coming back together after summer and freshmen are making new friends and just trying not to get lost on the way to class. It is the beginning of a new year filled with possibility!!
At Abilene Christian University we start off a year of possibility with Opening Chapel. It is one of the biggest chapels of the year and if you ever get the chance to come it will not disappoint. There is the parade of flags that show cases all of the countries ACU’s students past and present come from, as well as the many of these United States from which our students hail. So, from our professors dressed in full regalia to students packed in to the very top of Moody Coliseum, you might say the opening day of school at Abilene Christian University is a bit like the opening day at Hogwarts and never lacking in fan fair.
Personally I love opening chapel! It shows how connected our school is and our rich tradition. It is truly a wonderful moment to be a part of and this year I was able to share it with my siblings.
Look how cute they are!
That’s right there are now four Cansino’s on the ACU campus!! It is the first time that all of us have been on the same campus at the same time in our entire educational careers. So, even though as a graduate student I am not required to attend chapel we made sure to share this moment together. We are now all a part of the ACU tradition and I feel completely blessed. Therefore, this opening chapel will forever hold a special place in my heart, because it was my last Opening Chapel as a student at ACU and it was my youngest sisters first.
